Our central clinic is based in Birmingham and lead by Jon Price.
Jon has fifteen years’ experience working within the field of acupuncture. From his first clinical experiences as a new practitioner he began to work with patients who were dealing with various levels and diagnoses of depression, with positive results.
Over the years this has meant Jon has provided acupuncture for many patients seeking ways to improve their mental and emotional well-being as they find their way and purpose in life.
Jon has many acupuncture colleagues also providing acupuncture in this transformative way. He therefore decided to set up Calm Clinics as a network of practitioners pooling their experience and expertise to create a name to trust for those seeking help from acupuncture. Our goal is also to raise public awareness of acupuncture’s role in the support for mental and emotional pain.
Our approach
Acupuncturists often talk in the language of metaphors. This can sometimes help you understand how treating the body can affect the mind or emotional states. Your practitioner may draw parallels between the physiology of your organ systems and your current mental or emotional experience. For example, your stomach’s ability to digest and process food, essentially churning it up, can be used to explain how you may be getting stuck in the over processing of thoughts with the mind becoming as full and knotted up as a poor digestive system. In this case we may then use acupuncture points that relate to the stomach to bring about a clearer and more efficient processing of these thoughts.
For the practitioner, these metaphors act as a guide when looking at your overall balance of health and how this is reflected in your mental well-being. They can also act as a gauge to how you are responding to treatments. Of course we also have other ways of tracking your progress and the effectiveness of each treatment such as taking your pulse, looking at your tongue and of course talking to you within each session to really get to know how things are.
